The mission of the HIV/AIDS Law Consortium is to preserve the legal and human rights of individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS.
Who We Are
For over two decades, the HIV/AIDS Law Consortium has operated as a consortium of committed individuals and organizations. The Law Consotrium is a collaborative effort involving private practice and legal services attorneys, law schools, law firms, the courts, and multiple community based social service agencies. Direct legal services are provided in-house by law consortium staff, as well as by referral to a panel of 75+ pro bono (volunteer) private practice attorneys. Bar associations in all four western Massachusetts counties assist with attorney recruitment.
Services We Provide
The Law Consortium is a legal services program whose goals are to: 1) ensure access to effective legal assistance for low income individuals with HIV/AIDS who reside in western Massachusetts and 2) to demystify laws and public policy surrounding HIV/AIDS through educational forums for consumers and service providers. The Law Consortium addresses legal issues concerning housing, benefits, domestic relations, illegal disclosure of HIV-status, discrimination, ID theft, credit issues, consumer protection, and estate planning such as the execution of wills, powers of attorney, health care proxies and guardianships.
The critical work of the Law Consortium could not occur without the generous support of the private attorneys who serve on our pro bono panel and the contributions of individual donors, public & corporate funders, and private foundation support.
