The mission of Hawthorn Elder Care is to enhance and enrich the lives of seniors by providing comprehensive health and social services in a community setting. We also strive to strengthen family ties by supporting caregivers.
Hawthorn Elder Care believes that all older adults should be treated with dignity and respect in a stable and nurturing community. We understand that people’s health and happiness are best promoted by maximum integration into community settings, daily interaction with others, and by having meaningful and satisfying activities.
It has always been Hawthorn’s goal to work toward an integrated service delivery system for elders. To this end, we work closely with primary care physicians as well as psychiatrists in providing clinical and medical services, with considerable support and oversight from our nursing staff.
Hawthorn Elder Care was established in 1979 as Hawthorn Services. Initially, we provided a residential program for older adults. As demand for senior services grew, Hawthorn expanded as well, adding outreach and day programs.
In 1996, it became clear that many of Hawthorn’s services designed for residential clients could benefit other elders in the community. In response to a regional growing demand for adult day health and outreach services, Hawthorn Services shifted its mission to include all older adults in need of support. In 1996, Hawthorn’s existing day program became a licensed adult day health center, and began to accept non-resident clients.
