Disability Resources provides barrier-free recreational and competitive opportunities for individuals with physical disabilities or visual impairments. Through a variety of activities, from adaptive sports, recreational outings to social gatherings and educational events, Disability Resources seeks to enhance the self-confidence, interactive skills and physical abilities of our program participants.
The Disability Resources swimming program is held over 12 weeks during the winter at Springfield College’s Art Linkletter Natatorium. The participants are each paired up with a Springfield College student who helps them work on whatever skill they want to improve. Some of our participants have never been in a pool and need to learn the basics. Others have been gathering the courage to do a cannonball off the high dive since last season.
The season ends with the Aquathon event where participants show off the skills they learned and ask friends and family members sponsor them to help raise funds for the swimming program and others held throughout the rest of the year. The Aquathon is free to attend and open to the public so please come cheer on our athletes as they show off!
As with all Disability Resources Programs, the swimming program is open to people of all abilities. New this year, we are inviting members of the community to help with the FUNdraising. Interested in participating? Please call Program Manager, Jessica Levine at (413) 788-9695 for more details.
