Program Spotlight: Hawthorn Adult Day Health

An exercise session at Hawthorn Day Health.

Caregivers of elderly parents or loved ones with disabilities often face many challenges, including the decision to leave loved ones in the care of others. CHD’s Hawthorn Adult Day Health supports those who need full-time help during the workweek— or just an occasional break.

CHD’s experienced staff at this program are dedicated to helping people live life to the fullest. They provide medical services, plan social activities, or simply offer supervision so the regular caregivers of the individuals we serve can attend to other responsibilities.

Hawthorn Day Health’s nurses, LPNs, and personal assistants can help with the daily management of medical needs, including many chronic conditions such as diabetes. Everyone on staff is first aid and CPR certified.

Hawthorn Adult Day Health offers:

  • Free transportation
  • Medical management
  • Therapeutic programs
  • Nutritional support
  • Daily activities
  • Mental stimulation
  • Social outings

Staff serve two snacks and a nutritious lunch daily. Participants are welcome to bring their own food, however, staff are happy to accommodate an array of dietary restrictions.

CHD’s Hawthorn Adult Day Health centers in Springfield and West Springfield are open weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The program prefers individuals served to come at least two days a week, and many participate five days a week.

Typical outings include trips to the park, library, and nearby shopping centers. There are also visits to museums, farms and bowling, and other local entertainment. A variety is offered: the schedule is changed four times a year, and participants are encouraged to share ideas for trips and activities.

Tours are offered at both locations for those looking for an active adult daycare center in the Springfield area.
