July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month

National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month is observed each July to bring awareness to the unique struggles that racial and ethnic minority communities face regarding mental illness in the United States.

Racial and ethnic minorities often suffer from poor mental health outcomes due to several factors, including lack of access to quality mental health care services.

Other influences include cultural stigma surrounding mental health care, discrimination, inadequate health insurance coverage, inadequate transportation, and overall lack of awareness about mental health.

Indeed, there are many circumstances in our environment that can impact mental health and emotional wellbeing. For example, experiencing or witnessing racial discrimination or racial violence can cause stress and racial trauma. Poverty can also cause stress and may lead to mental health issues.

We are proud to partner with the National Alliance on Mental Illness to support the mental and emotional wellbeing of racial and ethnic minority populations.
