Giving the Gift of Winter Warmth to Our AMH-Connecticut Clients

A group of women at a senior living community recently donated 20 hats and scarves they had made to CHD’s Adult Mental Health-Connecticut program for distribution to individuals our agency serves.

Beneficiaries of their hard work and generosity will include visitors to CHD’s Hospitality Center in Waterbury, which provides services for the unhoused. The knitted items will also be given to residents of our supervised community residences in Hartford.

The Knitting Circle at The Heights in Hartford, next door to CHD’s Connecticut administrative office at Avery Heights, made 133 hats and scarves and gave them to three agencies: CHD, Loaves and Fishes soup kitchen, and Interval House, which provides domestic violence intervention and prevention services in the greater Hartford area.

“It’s exciting for us,” said Jean Curtis, who heads the Knitting Circle. “It’s a great feeling knowing, as we’re knitting, that people are going to benefit from it.”

Ray Grasso, administrative director of AMH-Connecticut, said he appreciates the gesture from CHD’s neighbors up the hill from his office. “It’s going to help those we serve during the winter months,” he said.
