Church Honors CHD Adult Mental Health-Connecticut Client for Volunteerism

Urban Hope Refuge Church in Hartford, CT recently presented its Lamplighter Award to Mario Stanford (pictured at right), a client of CHD’s Community Integration Services (CIS) in our agency’s Adult Mental Health-Connecticut program, for his volunteering efforts over the last six months.

“At Urban Hope Refuge Church, volunteerism is at the heart of our mission, and few embody that spirit more fully than Mario Stanford,” said Pastor Ashley Johnson (pictured at left). “Since joining our volunteer team, Mario has brought unmatched dedication, reliability, and compassion to everything he does.”

Sammy Woods, a CIS program navigator who supervises Stanford during his volunteering hours, said that his consistent presence and positive attitude have not only lightened the load for staff and fellow volunteers but have also inspired others to step up and get involved. “Whether he’s organizing, cleaning, or lending a hand with community events preparation, Mario approaches every task with humility and excellence,” said Woods.

Johnson added that Stanford’s efforts have had a tangible impact on the church’s ability to serve the community. “His leadership and commitment remind us all that meaningful change often begins with simple acts of service done with love,” he said. “Urban Hope Refuge Church is deeply grateful for Mario’s hard work and faithfulness. His volunteer service is a vital part of our ongoing mission to bring hope, help, and healing to our city.”
