Create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.
All youth achieve their full potential.
For more than 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hampshire County makes meaningful matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and youth ages 6 – 18 (“Littles”), with the aim of developing positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people. These relationships are supervised and supported by a staff of professional Case Managers, in partnership with parents and guardians. Volunteers spend time weekly with a young person for at least one year developing a positive, trusting, and enriching friendship.
We match adult volunteers from the community and students from the five colleges with young people throughout Hampshire County. To learn more about becoming a mentor, click the Volunteer tab below.
Kathy and Kim
One of our most creative Big Sisters has been treating her Little to a variety of made-up games and activities since they were matched in September. Kathy loves tapping into her Little Sister’s imagination and energy when they’re together. Kim, who is 9-years-old, has enjoyed making fashion collages with recycled magazines, going on an elaborate scavenger hunt through downtown Northampton, and making matching Halloween costumes for the Bowl-a-thon. Kathy loves the break from her work week to do the same things she did when she was a child.
There are nearly 200 children on our list just waiting to be matched. You can help Big Brothers Big Sisters provide the empowering gift of a mentoring friendship to more young people this year. Each annual contribution of $1,000 will directly fund the staff and program resources needed to support a Big-Little match for one year. That’s more than 200 hours of quality, one-to-one time with a caring and dependable mentor. Thank you for helping to empower the potential of young people in our community!
Become a “Big”
Mentoring a child through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hampshire County is a fun and meaningful volunteer experience in your community. All it requires is spending a few hours a week with a young person, doing things you both enjoy. What better way to have a positive impact in your community than by PLAYING! Our ‘Bigs’ and ‘Littles’ enjoy activities together like playing catch, making crafts, hiking, playing board games, fishing, cooking, going to movies, bike riding, and more! In addition, we offer free opportunities to attend cultural and athletic events throughout Western MA. Throughout your match, you’ll have the support of a dedicated BBBS case manager; someone who can offer you guidance, advice and fun activity ideas.
There are nearly 200 children in Hampshire County currently waiting to be matched with someone like YOU!
