Not Bread Alone

Everyone's welcome at our table. At Not Bread Alone, we prepare and enjoy family-style meals in a nurturing environment. It's a place to relax, refuel, and connect with others in our community.

Breaking Bread and Building Community

Eating together builds social bonds. Without Not Bread Alone, many of our neighbors would be eating in situations or locations that are anything but welcoming or pleasant.

Many of our guests are homeless or live in nearby subsidized housing. Every generation, from kids to seniors, is represented.

Despite these differences, everyone wants to contribute to our mission of helping others. When guests join us for a meal, they often stay to help clean up, fold chairs, mop, and even take out the trash. It’s wonderful to witness this sense of community.

Hours of Operation

Homemade meals are served on the lower level of the First Congregational Church of Amherst UCC every:

  • Saturday & Sunday at noon
  • Wednesday at 4pm
  • Thanksgiving & Christmas

Groceries are distributed every Saturday at 12:45pm.

On Thanksgiving and Christmas, people of all faiths come together to enjoy a holiday meal with neighbors, staff members, and the many volunteers who make it all possible.

We hope you’ll join our next gathering. If you need help with housing, food stamp applications, health insurance, or employment, this is a great opportunity to learn more about all of the services we provide.
