From art therapy to support groups, you’re welcome to participate in any programs or events that interest you (free!). Friends and loved ones are also welcome to join.

PLEASE NOTE:
While in-person programming is temporarily suspended due to COVID-19, some programs are available virtually or over the phone. The Cancer House of Hope looks forward to resuming its full slate of activities when it is safe to do so.

Wellness Outdoor Activities (WOA)

Activities at YMCA of Greater Westfield’s Camp Shepard

Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. | May 15-June 19
Space is limited to 8 participants per activity.

These outdoor wellness activities are an opportunity to not only get outside and enjoy the spring and summer weather but also for participants to connect with one another, do some light exercise, and build new skills, including coping skills that deal with the psychological and social effects of cancer.

Participants are not required to attend all 6 Saturdays and are instead welcome to select activities that interest them. In case of rain, games and arts and crafts will be offered under the pavilion.

May 15 – Easy Hike

Familiarize yourself with the Camp Shepard grounds and play some connection games with fellow participants.

May 22 – Badminton and Corn Hole

Enjoy some games with fellow participants.

May 29 – Trust Activities & Low Rope Outdoor Adventure

The Outdoor Adventure course is a fun experience where participants work together to reach their goal. The course incorporates some low rope elements.

June 5 – Kayak and Canoeing

Take a boat out and paddle along the pond, or play disc golf and enjoy a hike instead. Lifeguards and guides will also be in attendance.

June 12 – Outdoor adventure on Holy Cow Swing, disc golf or a hike

Participants can ride Camp Shepard’s ‘Holy Cow Swing’ or enjoy a hike and disc golf.

June 19 – Open House and Cookout

This event is open to all participants in the WOA sessions.

Therapeutic Riding at Whispering Horse

Virtual Art Therapy

Presented by the Red Thread Network

Third Saturday of each month from 10 a.m to 12 p.m. Next session is Saturday, May 15.

This program is offered via Zoom. Registered participants can pick up supplies at no cost at the Cancer House of Hope prior to the event.

Virtual Knitting Group 

First and Third Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m.

This program is offered via Zoom.

This relaxing knitting group welcomes people of all skill levels. Whether you’re an experienced knitter or interested in learning how, the knitting group is a great place to practice techniques while spending time with a great group.

Virtual Cooking Demonstrations

Outdoor Walking Group

Thursdays at 1:00 p.m.

A socially distant walk around the Cancer House of Hope’s neighborhood, and other locations. If you plan to attend, please contact the House in advance to confirm that week’s location. Please note that face coverings and social distancing are required for this event. Each walk will take place weather permitting.

Virtual Yoga Classes

Tuesdays: 5:00 p.m.
Thursdays: 11:00 a.m.

This relaxing and therapeutic service is offered at no cost to those diagnosed at any time with cancer of any kind and their loved ones. “The Healing Art of Yoga for Ongoing Cancer Recovery” group classes support this yoga journey in the comfort of home, featuring chair and mat options for all abilities. The class is taught by Patricia “Niti” Seip Martin, B.A. Health Psychology; EYT-500 Certified Yoga Therapist and Yoga Teacher; founder of The Healing Art of Yoga for Ongoing Cancer Recovery.

Wig Consultation

While the the Cancer House of Hope’s Wig Boutique is not currently open for in-person visits, we’re currently offering consultation services by phone for those in need of new wigs or more information about wig care.

Women’s All Cancer Support Group 

2nd and 4th Thursday of each month (Temporarily Suspended)
6 pm – 7:30 pm

Men’s All Cancer Support Group

2nd and 4th Monday of each month (Temporarily Suspended)
7 pm – 8:30 pm

Men’s All Cancer Support Group aims to provide support for men surviving all types of cancer. The group is led by Paul Lambert, who serves as a master’s level clinician at one of CHD’s outpatient behavioral health clinics in Springfield.

Certified Oncology Massage Therapy

Mondays and Tuesdays: 3 pm – 6 pm (Temporarily Suspended)

This hour-long massage focuses on soreness, muscle pain, fatigue, and the imbalance of the mind and body. Each massage is specially tailored based on the treatment and side effects of each individual.

Reiki

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays  (Temporarily Suspended)

This ancient eastern art balances and restores the body’s energy levels. It induces a sense of relaxation and has many known health benefits such as alleviating pain and strengthening the immune system.

Gentle Chair Yoga

Thursdays: 11 am and 2 pm (Temporarily Suspended)
Fridays: 10 am

90-minute sessions are offered for those affected by any kind of cancer – newly diagnosed, post treatment, or friends and family, including those in bereavement. Props and adjustments are made to make yoga accessible for everyone.
